What Is a Blepharoplasty?
A blepharoplasty, or cosmetic eyelift surgery, is an excellent treatment for heavy, tired appearing eyes. Cosmetic plastic eyelid surgery may include removing excess eyelid skin, reducing the appearance of “bags” in the lower eyelid area, and removing fat pads around the upper and lower eyelid that cause bulging.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Cosmetic Eyelift?
Blepharoplasty is an excellent option for both men and women with drooping, puffy, or aged-looking eyelids. Patients with noticeable puffy bags underneath their eyes can correct the issue with lower blepharoplasty. Patients with heavily sagging and withered-looking upper eyelids can greatly benefit from undergoing an upper blepharoplasty.
Can Eyelid Surgery Fix Crows Feet and Wrinkles?
Upper and lower cosmetic eyelid surgery will reduce bagginess and excess skin, but you may choose to combine blepharoplasty surgery with other facial rejuvenation procedures to achieve the youthful and refreshed aesthetic you want. For more dramatic results, patients often have additional procedures completed, including:
During your initial consultation, Dr. Attenello will discuss your goals and a treatment plan.
What to Expect from an Eyelid Surgery Procedure
A blepharoplasty surgery usually takes between 1 and 2 hours if it is not combined with other procedures.
- Upper Eyelift Incisions: During an upper blepharoplasty procedure, the incision is hidden in the natural eyelid creases along the upper eyelid so that any post-surgical marks are hidden for more natural-looking results.
- Lower Eyelid Incisions: During a lower blepharoplasty surgery, the incisions are sometimes made behind your eyelid to hide any incision marks along the lower eyelid.
- Remove excess eyelid skin.
- Gently remove any bulging fat cushions in the eye area. Some fat is left in place to avoid giving the eyes a sunken or hollowed appearance.
- Sutures are placed to close the incisions.
What Is the Recovery Time for Eyelid Surgery?
Most patients have minimal pain after a blepharoplasty, and some swelling and bruising are expected. We strongly recommend ice packs over the eyes to help resolve any swelling or bruising and avoid heavy exercise for two weeks post-surgery. Typically, recovery from eyelid surgery is about two weeks, but most patients see great improvement and feel comfortable returning to social settings after just a week, or even sooner by wearing sunglasses.
How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?
The cost of blepharoplasty depends on several factors and varies between patients based on the amount of work needed. Price and payment options can be addressed during the initial plastic surgery consultation. Dr. Attenello believes each patient deserves personalized care and exceptional surgical attention to achieve the best cosmetic results.
